my favorite holiday EVER.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I'm betting I won't have time to post, so here's an early Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanksgiving is seriously my most favorite holiday ever. Like better than my birthday kind of favorite. I'm not even joking.

It's the excuse to get together over a huge and once a year kind of meal and be so grateful for everything that has gotten you to this point. Without the stress of presents. Totally my kind of holiday.

I bought 40 pounds of turkey.

Told you I wasn't joking.

So, I have this Great Aunt Nina who makes the world's best pies. I went to one Thanksgiving when I was little with that side of the family where all I remember were the pies and how I couldn't decide between the flavors. I swear there were at least 30 pies. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I don't think so.
Up until now, being the designated pie baker of my little fam, I've used canned pumpkin and the recipe on the back of the can and a frozen pie crust. This year I tried to carry on the tradition to the next generation (and I've come to accept that Aunt Nina isn't coming to Iowa for the holidays) and baked a pie from scratch. Completely. And guess what? It was SO satisfying. Now it might taste like ass but, dude, it is so pretty, so who cares?
I promise to take pictures tomorrow along with other bits and pieces of our holiday.
Until then- rest well, be grateful and laugh. a lot. it's a good kind of holiday!

Aunt Nina's pies are definitely the best, I'd love to have one again. I think she'd be very happy that you made your pie from scratch while thinking about her and her wonderful pies.

Sounds like Aunt Nina is an amazing pie baker! Gosh! BUT sounds like you are following in her footsteps!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm still hoping that someday I'll work up the nerve to make a Thompson Turkey. Google can tell you all about it, but it starts with a list of 40 ingredients . . . it has to be good!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hate to rub it in but she brought 5 pies this year: pumpkin, apple and pecan.

We had a ton left over and right now I have an entire pumpkin pie in my fridge.

It's thanksgiving WEEK over here.

YUM, YUM, YUM!!!

I think if your pie looks pretty you're ahead of the game, because that's much harder than making something tasty. Mine generally taste good but look like ass, so hats off to you.

Happy (late) Thanksgiving to you and your family!
