history

I have several posts that I'm working on, but they're getting pushed aside for now because history was made today.
When Guthrie was seven days old we took her to the polls with us. I was so proud to hold her in her sling while I voted for Nancy Pelosi to become elected the first female Speaker of the House. I thought about how hopefully this would be a turning point.
A couple of weeks before I'd been prematurely filling out her baby book - I know, I know, but I was nesting - and it made me sad to write that our country was at war, that our President was someone I felt I had loathed for some time.
When she was 14 months old we took her to the Iowa caucuses. It was an amazing experience. So much different than doing my civic duty by absentee ballot. We were sweaty and exhilarated and exhausted by the time it was over.
This year I'm so looking forward to taking Guthrie to the polls again. This time to *hopefully* elect the first African American president. Can you believe that might be a possibility in this country? I'm endlessly proud. I don't care where you fall on the political continuum; this was an amazing day in American history.

Good for you and Guthrie, getting in on the political action. And yes, Obama '08!
