dinner for four

Laithe has shown a serious interest in our food as of late. As in, I'm going to grab whatever you're eating or drinking and try to shove it in my mouth. We've been able to catch him every time, uhh I think we have at least, because I'm so not having his first meal be coffee and a frittata!

Add that to my feeling that suddenly I just cannot keep up with his appetite - going from eating every 3-4 hours to every 1-3 was quite a jump. I gave it a week or so to see if it was a growth spurt, but it just kept lasting and lasting.
And we now have dinner for four at our house!

One of my most favorite things was making baby food for Guthrie. Loved it! So of course I've been looking forward to doing it again.

I did, however, find this first meal challenging to manage. Getting a meal on the table for us as well as for Laithe well, the timing has changed! I'm pretty hard core about these first few months of food with my babies and so we almost always have a separate meal. I think with Guthrie we started sharing our whole meal when she was about 12, maybe 18 months. One of the reasons for this was that we chose to keep her diet vegetarian until she was at least 12 months, if not longer. I'm not a fan of the ground up meat thing. If you don't have molars I'm not feeding you meat. Aside from the fact that with Guthrie we couldn't always afford to have organic/grass-fed/non-CAFO meat. Which should then make me think - if I wouldn't feed it to my kid why would I feed it to myself? This does not apply to donuts of course. This time we've secured our farmer-supplied sources of meat, but I'm still leaning toward the vegetarian route.

OK I will get off my soapbox and just tell you that it was a joy to dig out my worn copy of Super Baby Food to refresh my memory. And if you can't tell by the pictures- the cereal was a resounding success. So much so that I was holding him while cooking it up on the stove a few nights later and he was so excited- all shrieking and dancing. He's a fan of the spoon and I can just imagine he'll be a fan of the picking up food and shoving it in his face. Yesterday we did some bananas. He wasn't sure what to think about that. We'll try them again tonight and then go back to cereal tomorrow. I think it'll be several weeks before we have two meals in a day, which will be nice as I get back into the swing of things.

Such adorable pictures - sure hope at least the 1st one gets put on the first planned jump drive that will be sent to me!!! Looks like Guthrie was pretty excited to be able to feed him "real" food :)
